STEEL AGAINST STEEL - GRONINGEN (GRONINGEN)
1987 - 1993
BIOGRAPHY:
Groningen is Vortex and Vortex is Groningen. BUT... there are more bands
to discover from the city in the north of Holland. One of the best examples is
Steel against Steel. The band was formed in 1987 by guitar mastermind Martin de
Boer and bassist Peter Hes (yes, indeed an Ex-VORTEX
member). One year later the band released their first demo called "Out of the
Tomb". This demo, which contains 4 tracks, is filled with some great speedy
heavy metal with high pitched vocals by vocalist Eric van der Heide. But the one
that steals the show is obviously guitarist Martin de Boer with his brilliant
Yngwie Malmsteen styled guitarwork. In '89 the band records their second demo,
which contains songs in the same style as the first demo. Sadly, in july of '89
Martin de Boer announces his department from the band to make a solo album under
the name of AGARTHA. Without Martin Steel Against Steel record and release their mini LP "From factory to
history" in the end of april '90. The MLP contains some avarage material and
shows a more progressive approach of the band. It was clear the band couldn't
reach the same level as their earlier stuff. Because of the avarage release the
band didn't get the recognition they wanted and decided to split up in 1993.
Bassist Werner Hoenders (who replaced Peter Hes) and Eddo Pol started a new band
at this point, namely WANG DANG SWEET BOOM TANG.
